GiraSoul: A Jewelry Brand That Uses Natural Crystals While Spreading Messages Of Love
We were elated to connect with GiraSoul, a beautiful jewelry collection by a passionate curator who is journeying through healing processes.
Check out this interview:
When and why did you start Gira Soul Jewels?
I started GiraSoul Jewels around December of 2017, shortly after starting my locs. I was going around looking for unique hairpieces for locs and I couldn’t find what I was looking for. Eventually I realized that whatever I was looking for, I would have to create it. So that’s what initially sparked the idea. That in conjunction with the fact that I felt completely lost in my relationship at the time. I felt like my identity was hidden or suppressed. Maybe even non existent. So I thought, “well maybe this will be a therapeutic hobby for me.” GiraSoul Jewels turned out to be so much more 🏾🏾 GiraSoul Jewels is my baby!

What inspired the name?
The name GiraSoul Jewels instantly came to me. I grew up a lover of all things pertaining to Latin American culture and eventually went on to study Spanish in college. I knew the name of my business had to incorporate my love for Spanish. So I used the Spanish word for Sunflower, which is “girasol.” I am OBSSESSED with sunflowers!! I just love everything about them. Flowers are usually thought of as beautiful, sweet, delicate plants. However, sunflowers are actually super tall, prickly, fierce, and can even be intimidating. They grow and prosper through almost any conditions and I love that about them! They remind me of trials and tribulations in life. The only way to get through it is to go trough it. Why not grow through the process and flourish at the end? I added the “u” in the name to add a soulful touch. And it just all came together. GiraSoul Jewels 🖤

Is there a spiritual mantra of your brand? If so explain?
“I spread peace, love, and happiness.” This is the mantra that I say every time I make a new piece. This is my way of cleansing my energies and naming my intentions so that the piece has is not tainted with any negativity.
Does being a Black woman/ WOC influence your brand? If so how?

Being a black woman absolutely influences GiraSoul Jewels. All of my life experiences have helped mold me into who I am, and that translates into my business. I try to partner with Black owned companies and women owned businesses because I love to support others, especially people that can relate to the Black experience. I’m so passionate about equality and rights for my people, I paid homage in my logo. If you look closely, there is a fist within the sunflower. It represents Black Pride. Also, my pieces include black stringing material that serves as a symbol of solidarity for Black people around the world.
What is your greatest inspiration?
I am most inspired by people who bravely battle mental illness daily. During the time that I created GiraSoul Jewels, I was deeply depressed. I was barely eating, not engaged in things that normally made me happy, and even attempted suicide. These dark moments helped give birth to something beautiful. I just had to make it through the storm! GiraSoul Jewels has been so therapeutic and it literally helped me slowly climb out of my depression. With my jewelry I just hope to spread peace, love, and happiness and hopefully help others win their mental battles too.
What is the power and intention of the different stones you use?

When I first started GiraSoul Jewels, I was unaware of crystals and their healing properties. One day a Michaels Craft Store associate came to me and recommended the biggest bead shop in Houston, Texas. That’s where I discovered that the crystals could actually HEAL. I started using only natural crystals and began researching their healing properties. Now I have dozens of pieces on my website all with unique healing properties ranging from happiness, confidence and prosperity, to calming the nerves, releasing stress and even helping with anxiety & depression. There are literally stones for EVERYTHING. I even make custom orders now for people that need specific healing. It has really been a dream come true to flourish from the rubble. It was a tough road but I wouldn’t change anything! I’m just so excited to keep working hard and spread the message and love of GiraSoul Jewels.
