MelaninASS x KOWTOW Collab Showing That WOC Can Give Organic Cotton Life
MelaninASS partnered with New Zealand sustainable fashion brand KOWTOW for an exclusive shoot showing yet again, that women of color belong in ethical style spaces. On MelaninASS, we've previously discussed the lack of representation for Asian women and similar to the Instagram account "More Models Of Color", we are continuing to change norms and push for inclusion.
Additionally our images, are to celebrate the collaboration of SWORDS-SMITH and Kowtow for their in-store and online sustainable marketplace launching TODAY (Thursday, August 24th) for a limited run. This marketplace will kick off the launch of Kowtow's AW '17 collection and their first ethical organic denim line. We are elated to work with a brand that is entirely made from the highest quality ethical organic cotton.
Check out how we shot and styled some of our favorite organic cotton pieces from KOWTOW's AW 17 collection with our #melaninASS model:
For the first time, Kowtow introduces ethical organic denim in four styles: a pair of jeans, a dress, a jacket and overalls. “Denim is such a universal fabric, that it made sense for us to design our own while remaining true to our philosophy. We spent more than a year developing the perfect 12.5oz mid-weight ethical organic cotton denim with a classic indigo wash approved by the Global Organic Textile Standard” — Gosia Piatek, Creative Director.
Kowtow fabrics are all exclusive and designed in-house. The label is committed to using fair trade certified organic cotton, Global Organic Textile Standard approved dyes, mindful manufacturing with fair working conditions, ethically sourced trims and sustainable packaging.
