Sindiso Khumalo's SS18 Collection Is A Mosaic Of Textiles Inspired By Indigenous Plant Life

Sindiso Khumalo is a South African textile designer based in Durban and London. Founded in 2014, with a focus on creating modern sustainable textiles with a strong emphasis on African story telling. She designs all the textiles in her collections herself by hand through watercolours and collage. Over the years she has developed a uniquely colourful visual voice, which draws upon her Zulu and Ndebele heritage, and also speaks to the land of Kwazulu Natal, where she is from. Sustainability, craft and empowerment lie at the heart of the label. She works very closely with a NGO’s in developing handmade textiles for her collections.

"The collection features hand painted, handwoven and indigo dyed.

"Spring Summer 2018 tells a story thought textiles of the indigenous plant life in a place called Inanda situated in the outskirts of Durban. It's sits neighboring the Umgeni River and is an area with an abundance of exotic plant life, rolling green hills and streams where children swim and play. This collection is a celebration of that and many other natural landscapes of Souther Africa." - Sindiso Khumalo
