Sanaya's Set Fall Collection Pays Tribute to Domestic Violence Awareness Month While Honoring Womxn & Minorities
It’s officially Autumn!!!
Aside from warm color pallets, pumpkin spied teas and the beautiful change of the leaves - it’s an important month for awareness. October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month - and as we’re detoxing, finding balance and shifting our consciousness to focus on manifestation, it’s imperative to leave space for discussions around abuse awareness and the importance of healing - real healing.
Now more than ever, it’s important to focus on personal healing journeys. From journaling, meditation and hiking all the way to working with a wellness practitioner who aligns with your values. However, we wanted to find a brand that celebrates this month in a unique way - and we did.
We found Sanaya Set, founded by Tarul Tripathi (CEO) and Tejal Angolkar (Director of Content Strategy).
Sanaya Set is a seasonal collection of lifestyle products, each sourced to align with their principles, which are guided by intersectional feminism. They donate 10 percent of the net proceeds of each set to organizations that compliment the theme for that set. Although real healing from trauma and selfceare especially is less about commodification and more about personal awareness and awakening - we really valued the authentic mission behind a brand that can add an interesting element to the healing process.
We were excited to experience Sanaya’s Sets’ Fall “Fierce” Collection, which pays tribute to Domestic Violence Awareness Month with products focusing on healing, awakening and honoring Womxn and minorities.
So we chatted with Tarul who shared this information about the Sanaya Set:
The Sanaya Set is named after my daughter. Sanaya means distinguished - different in a great way, we I explain to her. I found my voice when she was born and made a commitment to never stay silent about the things that matter most. We founded our company with our hearts on our sleeves, believing that each of us have the power make a positive impact. I was recently asked about my best advice. Here is what drove us to pursue our passion project:
Choose the path that is important to you, even though it may be harder. Look for truth in criticism. Examine your privilege- yes, the big ‘P’ word. Use that privilege to be both intentional AND intersectional. Persist to understand the experiences of others, so we can build each other up and pave the way for a better future. We must live our lives with not only empathy, but with intention. It’s challenging, something we all must continuously work on. If it’s not hard, we’re not doing it right.
As a WOC, I am deeply invested in highlighting intersectional feminism as part of our core values. It is our goal to center the voices and experiences of womxn of color and those from marginalized communities. Based on my life experiences, I know feminism goes beyond gender. We believe we must all recognize what privilege we have, and use it- to pull up others, not only with empathy, but with intention.
The Fall “Fierce” Collection is focused on the color purple because it’s meant to be a symbol of peace, courage, survival, honor and dedication to ending violence. They donate 10% of the net proceeds from their Fall collection to API Chaya. API Chaya empowers survivors of gender-based violence and human trafficking to gain safety, connection, and wellness. Their values are not only integral, but deeply personal to us.
