Fall Mashup for Oakland-Based Conscious Style & Beauty Brands
There's something culturally, spiritually and organically magical about Oakland, California. As an Oakland native, I'm always unapologetically proud to tell people where I'm from despite the many stigmas that comes with the territory. Oakland has a myriad of hidden gems and nurtures some of the most authentically crafty and ethically enticing local brands. Below is my first mashup of Oakland-based brands spearheaded by women of color who are redefining luxury.
ALIYA WANEK
Aliya Wanek is a womenswear brand locally produced in Oakland. They are committed to exploring identity and style through a female lens. Inspired by Japanese, the aesthetic is very much timeless and function. Quality handmade craftmanship is essential for designer, Aliya Wanek and her team.

CANDID ART
CanDid Art by Candice Cox is an Oakland-based accessories brand that is inspired by African visual culture, indigenous design vernacular, and cosmic geometry. Each piece is handcrafted and is created for the fearless fashion enthusiast who desires to make a statement without saying a word. This brand incorporates sustainable business practices such as using recycled metals and findings as well as unbleached fabrics for packaging.CanDid Art designs are known for their use of various chains, assortment of metals, semi-precious stones and recycled materials.
BEIJA-FLOR
Beija-Flor Naturals is an organic skin and haircare brand that started in Los Angeles but is not rooted in Oakland. This brand focuses on using high end botanical ingredients at a price that everyone could afford. Some of the base ingredients include raw, fair trade amazon butters and oils such as acai, murumuru and cupuacu.
NIVA FLOR
Niva Flor is an incredible local artist, and sound healing practitioner in the Bay Area. With a core mission of promoting collective wellness, Flor also makes luxury eco-friendly soy candles. Each candle is hand-poured with love in Niva’s studio's in Oakland and Sacramento California. She has a variety of aromatic blends such as Mint Julep Soy (eucalyptus mint, sweet lavender and organic dried rosemary) and Ginger Brew Soy (ginger, saffron, cardamom and lemongrass).
