A Fashion Collection Paying Homage Southern Creole Spiritually & African Roots
With Fashion Week just around the corning, we want to start recognizing some unique MelaninASS brands to be on the look out for.
House of Aama is an NYC-based clothing brand created by the mother-daughter design duo, Akua Shabaka and Rebecca Henry.
We are elated to share this photo series encapsulating House of Aama’s “BLOODROOT" Collection.
The collection “BLOODROOT” is inspired by the rare herb bloodroot which has been used by old-time conjures and root workers as a powerful Guardian for the Family. House of Aama’s AW’17 BLOODROOT collection is an ode to Southern Creole spiritually and African Roots. Hidden in plain sight. These are the tales of a Rootworker, Southern Lady and Bluesman. “BLOODROOT” has already received interest from Vogue, stylist from Harper’s Bazaar, Milk and Warby Parker, to name a few. In addition, the phenomenal actor Ashton Sanders (Moonlight + Calvin Klein) starred in our fashion film campaign. (photographed by Jordan Tiberio)
We are elated to attend House of Aama's 1st New York Fashion Week Presentation showcasing their AW’17/18 collection "Bloodroot" taking place on Monday, February 12th at Cafe Erzulie Juke Joint Session.
