Why did you start House of Heritage?

I started House of Heritage (HoH) because I saw the need for having authentic handmade african accessories in the Diaspora without breaking the bank. When I would come back from my travels I would constantly get asked where I got something from, how long someone has been waiting for a certain product or even how difficult it is to get our kind of original jewelry without knowing someone; it was very exclusive or very expensive. It also has become a certain kind of call urging people to learn more about the beauty of Africa because no one piece is similar to another. It urges the wearer to know the details of what they are wearing because they most certainly be complimented or asked about it!
Additionally, because our pieces are locally sourced, we pay the women who make our products more than a fair wage since most are the breadwinners of their family. Lastly, these pieces cultivate a new standard of accessorizing through its handmade authentic nature, the beauty and uniqueness, its affordability, its unity and its sustainability.
How do you define sustainability?

Sustainability means the ability to be reproduced with little or no harm to the planet as means of production.
Is there any ancestral or historical relevance tied to your idea for House of Heritage?
Of course! House of Heritage is based on having strong ties to ancestral land and having immense pride in where one comes from. Some customers have dubbed it "the one stop shop for motherland stuff.” It has strong African influences.

Where do you source your jewelry?

House of Heritage is primarily sourced from recycled cow bone and glass beads made from recycled goods in Ghana, Kenya and South Africa.
What's the most rewarding aspect of your work?
The most rewarding aspect of my work is honestly knowing that the women who back our products get paid a fair wage to provide for their family. This allows their children to have a better life than they did which eventually brings the whole village up and those individuals have the power to change the world.
Anything else you feel called to share?
House of Heritage is unlike any other business because of its ethical code and unique authentic handmade products. We can be found at houseofheritagestore.com or @houseofheritage_ on IG and tik tok. Lastly, I am so grateful for this opportunity, thank you!
